Four Beautiful Reasons to Visit Rosneath: Spring Summer Fall Winter

Since the days of Thomas Jefferson the Dabney Carr house at Rosneath has offered Virginians and their guests just about the perfect place to greet the four seasons. Today, a newly remodeled kitchen and the latest entertainment gear enhance the experience. Rosneath is a great place to stay indoors with friends and family on a crisp winter night, walk in the meadows on a cool spring morning, sip a drink on the porch as the summer sun sets, or take in the hardwood trees’ fall fashion show. The house rests in 120 acres of meadow and woodland, less than 25 miles from the Wintergreen Resort, 18 minutes from UVA and Monticello, 20 minutes from the foot of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive and a few miles from the historic, enchanting village of Batesville. It’s minutes from the Pippin Hill winery and within a half hour to the Trump Vineyards. With all that nearby, guests often say they would prefer to remain on the property and breathe pure mountain air, drink clear fresh water from the land’s private spring and enjoy dazzling sunsets and a star filled night sky. The kitchen is newly remodeled and fully equipped. There is a dining room, media room/parlor and living room. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a private bathroom and an adjacent office that can be used as a bedroom or nursery. Down the hall there are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and the other with two twin beds.

    Rosneath Thanksgiving

Rosneath Farm...the perfect setting for Giving Thanks with family! Our family enjoyed the warmth of Rosneath's history and antiques combined with the modern comforts of a beautifully appointed kitchen and well-maintained "lovingly cared-for" home. There was plenty of room to prepare and serve Thanksgiving dinner. Removed from the bustle of Charlottesville, but close enough for those who need activity, we enjoyed Monticello and the area wineries, walking the farm (with Bud the yellow lab in the lead,) sunset on the porch and watching Vanderbilt beat Tennessee by the fireplace in the family room. Although cell service is non-existent at the house, the land line is available along with WiFi and you can buzz down the road to the crossroads if you want to use your cell. We conducted business with just a few minor adjustments. The Owners are easy to communicate with and, onsite, go out of their way to be accommodating but unobtrusive. We appreciated their gracious hospitality!

    Charming house

We had a wonderful stay at the house. The owners are very helpful and the house is very well maintained and so charming. Our kids had a great time to spending hours outside and visiting the sites nearby. Highly recommended.

Everything here is beautiful and thoughtful. (Later) Everything went very well at the house. We had a great time as a family.

    Parrott Family

We visited with our 14 month old daughter and her Grandparents visiting from the UK. It is a beautiful property in a wonderful setting and warm and practical for a family break. We would definitely recommend Rosneath to others.

    Breathtaking Getaway!

Fantastic all around - we had the most fabulous time! Have already emailed the group to demand they look at their calendars so I can go ahead and reserve a week in the spring. Thank you so much again, it was the most amazing week - I'm not sure who misses the house more, myself or Charlie (he can't understand why he is back on a leash and why Bud isn't outside waiting for him).

    Lovely weekend!

The house is wonderfully kept and made for a relaxing, beautiful weekend. We came for a girls' vineyard weekend. There was obviously great care put into all of the little details in the house.... It could actually sleep 9 if you needed to accommodate a party if that size including a pullout twin upstairs and a pullout full downstairs. We will certainly be back!

    Parents 50th Anniversary

From the moment I reserved Rosneath for the out of town guests coming into Charlottesville to celebrate my parents 50th Anniversary, I knew this would be a weekend to remember. The property and the owners went far beyond my expectations. The home was warm and inviting and served as the perfect gathering point for family to recognize my parents 50 years of love and dedication to family, good food and appreciation of life. The kitchen is perfectly set up for all you would need to entertain a group. The property offers great outdoor space and plenty of room to venture off for an adventurous hike. The hikes are filled with spectacular views and plenty of mosaic quartz to admire along the way. Our family is already talking about what next big event we could have to gather at Rosneath. The property is only 14 miles from the Boar's Head Inn where we hosted a luncheon for 19 guests on Saturday, which by the way, is a fabulous deal and will certainly impress the most picky amongst your party. If you are looking for a rental home with the real home feeling, then I highly recommend Rosneath at Winter Garden.

    Wonderful location in rural Virginia

Our two night stay at Rosneath was the highlight of our trip so far. Comfortable beds (always important) - well equipped kitchen - fantastic outdoor seating areas - peaceful setting. Great hosts and a beautiful historic house to stay in - couldn't ask for more. Thanks Misty (and brothers) Best wishes Catherine Manhire (New Zealand)

    Great house in excellent condition.

My family and I stayed at this property last week and we really enjoyed it. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to prepare all our meals. The bedrooms were large and there was plenty of space to accommodate 7 of us. We enjoyed the property and all the outdoor seating as well. Thanks for sharing your family home with us.

    Very nice house, great location

We very much enjoyed our stay here. The house is in very good shape and the large grassy fields surrounding the house are really lovely. There are three porches, which is perfect because we were always able to avoid the direct sun. It's also very convenient to downtown Charlottesville (at most 25 minute drive), even though it feels like it's way out in the country. The only negative is that the house is on a road with a high speed limit (55) and no sidewalks, so you can't really take walks along the street. We definitely hope to return! Lovely Home

The house was as represented in photographs. We wish our stay there could have been longer and we look forward to being able to stay there again. If not for the preparation for our daughter's wedding it would have been so relaxing. The caretakers of the property were quick to accommodate the two requests we had. I would enthusiastically recommend staying at Rosneath. Thank you for allowing us to use this lovely home.

Historic home, modern amenities, picture-perfect location. Unbelievable!

Our family stayed a week at Rosneath this summer. Used to a regular "beach week" vacation, some in our family were skeptical that this would suit our purposes - but now we may never go back to the beach! Nestled in the mountains, with a rural feel but close to vibrant Charlottesville, quaint Crozet and Afton Mountain, Chiles' peach orchards, breweries & countless wineries, the best pizza place in Virginia (Dr. Ho's), rolling fields and such abundant quiet at night - it was incomparable. We tripped to the Charlottesville Farmers' Market, Scottsville to tube the James and Montebello to hike Crabtree Falls. We've previously spent a lot of time at the nearby historic sites (UVa, Monticello, etc), so didn't include those in this trip, but if you haven't been there before, this home would be the perfect anchor point for your stay. We opted to "cook-in" a lot, using fresh local produce, and thoroughly enjoyed using the Weber grill, the gas stove, the well-equipped kitchen, and the plentiful outdoor seating (on the lawn and the farmhouse porches). We also appreciated that the owners were pet-friendly. We were especially lucky - we had our own banjo player who serenaded us on the porch while we were there. But you'll enjoy it whether you have an in-house musician or not!

Wonderful stay in a winter wonderland

We had a great long weekend with our children and grandchildren, even 17 inches of snow couldn't keep us away. Dan and Misty were wonderful and even provided a couple of sleds for the grand kids. The house is great and provided the relaxation we all needed. Everyone is great to work. Looking forward to a return stay.

    Everything pictured and more

We celebrated a girl’s weekend in late March at Rosneath. We were completely impressed with the house. Not only is it charming, it is also has beautiful updates (I wish I could always cook in a kitchen like that). It really had everything we needed from enough sheets to appliances to space. It was also VERY clean. Even though it rained most of the weekend, we still loved sitting out on the deck and enjoying the scenery. We enjoyed Dr. Ho's Humble Pie (right down the street) and went to a number of wineries. Pippin Hill was our favorite and it is very close to the house (maybe a 5 minute drive if that). The house is also close to downtown C-Ville. I think we would all come back just to have brunch again at The Nook. I had a lot of questions while I was planning the trip and received very helpful and quick responses from the owners. We loved the house/location and hope to come back again soon. I would highly recommend the house for couples, girl’s weekends, or family gatherings.

Highly recommend Rosneath as a jumping off point to any Charlottesville vacation. Very convenient to UVa, Downtown C'Ville, Monticello, wineries, and lots of hiking. Crabtree Falls in the George Washington National Forest about 40 minutes south of Rosneath is a must if you are looking for a good hike. Pippin Hill Winery is just a couple miles away. With an amazing view to the west, stop by later afternoon and watch the sun set. They close at 5 but let guests stay until 5:30. Blue Mountain Brewery, a 15 minute drive, is also a sure bet. Rosneath is as advertised. Several porches to enjoy your morning coffee or an afternoon cocktail. Kitchen is completely modernized and very well done. Has everything you'll need to eat in. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Direct TV with all the movie channels if you'd prefer to stay in. Professionally run across the board. We highly recommend Rosneath.

Great place to stay in Charlottesville.

The property was as described. Everyone enjoyed the porches and patios. There are a couple for morning sun and one for the sunset. The house was clean and the kitchen was well equipped. There is a on site caretaker so any issues are easily taken care of. We had none. The house is well located for visiting Monticello and UVa, but is in the country.

  • Andrea   W.

    Lovely Home!

My family and I visited Rosneath for my nephew's wedding. The home was exactly as described. The kitchen was well equipped and we loved all the antique furniture. We had perfect weather and enjoyed the porches. We definitely want to come back again. We all fell in love with Rosneath. It was perfect. Thanks to Randy and the caretaker for a wonderful time!!

    Absolutely The Perfect Place

I just returned, and I can't even to begin to explain what a wonderful place this is. Everything is A+. The setting is what I'd want if I were to buy a place in the country, and the resident dog is soooo friendly. I hope that when I'm back in this part of Virginia, this VRBO property is always available.

    Heaven in Virginia

I just loved this place. The house is beautiful, comfortable, well-maintained, and has so many places to sit and enjoy the views. The kitchen is great. It had everything we needed and was a joy to cook and relax in. One sitting room had a nice TV that was hooked up to Dish Network. The house has a great WiFi signal. The property is easy to get to. Shooting up RT 29 to Charlottesville was a breeze. The caretakers, Dan and Misty, were just the nicest people. I enjoyed the time there this summer, but I can imagine that it is more spectacular in the fall and winter. This house just has it all. Everything, from communicating with Ross Elliott, the trustee, to getting settled in and enjoying the house, was a real pleasure. There is so much room in the house, and it is so well maintained and beautiful. The house and the views made the vacation one of my most memorable and enjoyable.

Virginia Wine Country At Its Best

After years of vacation rentals and owning a beach rental property myself, this is the best vacation rental I have ever experienced...or even heard about. The property was beautiful and well cared for, the caretakers provided privacy but were very responsive, and the location is stunning. My husband and I wanted a short getaway with no work contacts and we got it. If you need cell phone and texting this isn't for you, but if you're in the market for wineries, Monticello and UVA proximity there can be no better. The only down side is for guys 6'4...the beds are small and have footboards. I'm bringing my family back if we can get on the calendar!

  • Lauren   H.

    Beautiful country escape

We loved staying in this lovely old farmhouse in the countryside. We were close enough to Charlottesville, Monticello, wineries, and the Shenandoah National Park to get to everything we wanted to do, but we came back each night to the complete quiet and darkness of the countryside. It had everything we needed and plenty of space. Beds were comfortable and sheets were soft. We are already planning our return trip!

  • Susan   D.

    Beautiful house for family get-together

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The house was clean and bright: just as it is pictured. The views from the windows and porches, doorways and gardens out to the split-rail fence and rolling fields and on to the edge of the mountains were lovely. We enjoyed cooking and eating meals together - after a wine tasting at Pippin Hill Winery (just two miles down the road from the house, past the apple orchards). Visiting Charlottesville, UVA, Monticello, Montpelier, Ash Lawn-Highland, and wineries are all good activities before returning home to prepare dinner and taste local wines. Thank you for sharing your house.

    Stunning colonial farmhouse

Roseneath is located in a quiet area of trees, green pastures, & winding roads. Entering this home, one can imagine how the early colonists lived, albeit with the latest WIFI & TVs. This property is spacious with 2 living rooms; a large modern kitchen; 3 bedrooms, one with an ensuite bathroom and sitting room with a pull-out couch, dining room, and outdoor balconies. We were there for our daughter's wedding and were so comfortable and at home. There was plenty of room for family and guests. Our only regret was that we didn't have adequate time to fully enjoy the calm atmosphere of Roseneath & its surroundings. This was an ideal location for us, & we hope to make it back there one day.

A North Garden , VA Gem

Situated on a rise on the old Plank Road, Rosneath was the perfect setting for our family get together. The spotless, well cared- for property provided plenty of room for three couples...plus more! Six foodies happily shared the modern, spacious kitchen. All bedrooms and baths were amply supplied with fresh towels, linens, and fluffy pillows. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the front porch in the mornings, coffee in hand, listening to the birds and watching the sun light up the mountains. Rosneath is ideally located to serve as a central hub for local sightseeing. Albemarle County is a beehive of wineries, cideries, and craft beer facilities, not to mention the history of Monticello, Montpelier, and Highland/AshLawn. Do not miss Dr Ho's at the crossroads...amazing array of well prepared and presented fare. The caretaker, Misty, answered a phone call immediately, and Randy was happy to share the history of the property prior to our visit.Honestly, there is something for everyone in this beautiful part of Virginia. I would highly recommend Rosneath to anyone looking for home away from home in North Garden.

    Absolutely outstanding in all ways

We love this property. Great family get together location

This is our second stay at this great home, which speaks to the quality and beauty of the estate.

We stayed her again this spring with our two grandchildren and had a wonderful time with family dinners, flying kites, visiting the local sites, horseback riding, and just being together. The location is just right from Charlottesville, and the local stores at the North Garden area supply everything needed. Dan and Missy are wonderful hosts, and we look forward to using this as our Charlottesville area home in the future.

    A wonderful experience

We spent a weekend here and it was just perfect. The home is beautiful, spacious and very comfortable. The gardens and setting are lovely. The location is great - an easy drive to Charlottesville, and convenient for hiking and visiting wineries and breweries. We so enjoyed our time here. Whatever you do, don't miss the pizza at Dr Ho's. It's right down the road and it's better than I would have thought pizza could possibly be. We look forward to staying here again.

  • Denise   K.

Our stay at Rosneath was wonderful. The house is beautiful! We definitely would stay there again.

Our daughter was graduating from Liberty University and we needed to rent a home. We were flying in from California and we had family from Connecticut and Washington D.C. joining us. We needed a home for 6 adults. I looked at many houses on-line and based on pictures and reviews, decided to stay at Rosneath. We are so glad we did! The house is gorgeous, as well as the surrounding area. The owners were great to deal with too. We totally enjoyed our stay and are already thinking about going back to stay again. Overall, a great experience!

Rosneath Farm is a wonderful farm house with lots of character.

Rosneath Farm is a a great place to relax and enjoy the Virginia country side, the mountains and lots of farm land and privacy. Dan and Misty live in a separate house on the property and were super in checking us in and providing information on local places. All bedrooms upstairs with plenty of room to stretch out. This is an old house so hardwood floors and stairs creak. Dr Ho Humble Pie is a great place to eat with lots of great food. Winery's, brewery's, cideyr's and distillery's nearby. Get grocery's in Charlottesville. We went to Wegmans. Pippin Hill Winery a couple of miles away. Roseneath Farm is highly recommended and we would definitely consider for a future getaway.

  • Brian   V.

Fantastic hideaway just outside of Charlottesville. Our family celebrated our son's high school for the weekend and had a wonderful time on the "Farm".

  • Darcy   Wood

    Fabulous Choice

We had to come to Charlottesville for my son to have surgery at the UVA Med Center and chose to stay at Rosneath. The home was extremely well appointed and very clean. The beds and bathrooms were perfect size and we had plenty of room for the 6 people in our family to feel comfortable at all times. We were thankful for the beautiful kitchen and cooked every meal for ten days in the home. I felt that we were given a more than fair price for this beautiful home and property. I would return in a heartbeat!

  • Justin   Tuck

    Beautiful Property

We recently stayed at the Rosneath Farmhouse. This is by far the best vacation rental house we have rented in any place. The house and grounds are beautiful and is in a perfect central location for winery/brewery tours. We had absolutely no complaints.

  • John   Hubbell

    Charm with a view

Just stayed for a week with my girlfriend. We loved the house. The house has so much character. You really feel that you are living in the 1700s when you look at the construction of the ceiling, floors, and walls. Then you step out into the sun room with the incredible, large windows. I would drink coffee, watch the cows, snapping turtle, birds, a fox and even a skunk. The sunsets were so enjoyable. It was such a beautiful and relaxing break. The home is so clean and so very comfortable. I loved this place!

  • Tracey   Phillips

Dancing Bear Cabin on Medicine Man

My husband and I needed a week away at a cabin in the woods to decompress and this one certainly did the trick. It was like living in a tree house...with a hot tub! The cabin is well appointed and maintained. Because of the remote location, we were forced to stay off the grid due to slow internet. The cabin has easy access to day trips in Boone, Blowing Rock and Asheville. We will flag this one to hopefully return some day.

  • Susan   Harper

    Great getaway!

We did not want to leave this house! It is beautifully decorated and the view of the lake is so wonderful that we sat on the porch from morning till the stars came out at night. Kay has provided everything you will need or want and there is a pier with a great seating area that you can sit on and enjoy the view. Three nights were not enough so anxious to return as soon as there are free days on her calendar!

    Rosneath, Charlottesville VA

Our stay at the Rosneath Farmhouse was better that I ever imagined. The wonderful home beautiful and met all our needs. I thank the owners for sharing their home with my family. The property was clean and well maintained and offered everything we needed. I would most certainly recommend this property to family and friends, it was one of the most peaceful places that I have ever been, it was though I had stepped back in time. The area attractions and restaurants were great. Thomas Jefferson's home was great, the apple orchard and the wineries were all great. I will stay there again. Thanks, Karen

  • Amy   Schwenkmeyer

Beautiful home with great character. Convenient to town and hiking.

This wonderful old farmhouse was very charming and comfortable. Overall, the house was very clean and well-cared for with all the supplies we needed. Our family likes to hike and the house was only about 20 minutes from Skyline Drive. It was also an easy drive to Charlottesville and Monticello. Awesome outside space for kids to run around. I would highly recommend it. The only downside is that two of the rooms have double beds. My husband and I are tall so we felt a little squashed and would have been more comfortable in a queen bed. But this is minor compared to all the great things about this location and home.

    Beautiful Home

My family and I stayed here for a week while visiting D.C. and absolutely loved it. The house is beautifully decorated with lots of space. The kitchen was our favorite area to gather for meals and play games in the evening. The kitchen is well stocked if you want to cook. The Metro train station is close and an easy ride into D.C. Nancy was very helpful and easy to work with. I would definitely recommend this beautiful home!

    Farmhouse Delight

We were there to celebrate our daughter's college graduation and we had a fabulous time staying at this property. It was contemporary yet historic and the views were spectacular. Many fond memories were made there this past weekend and I am so glad that this house served as the background for them.
