Description

Fabulous food from a friendly couple in a lovely old schoolhouse of Cotswold stone, with church-y windows, wood-burner and lots of light
So comfortable and filled with understated style is this 1854 Cotswold stone house. Wendy and John are generous, beds are huge, linen is laundered, towels and robes are fluffy. Your own mini fridge is carefully hidden and pretty lamps cast a warm glow. Best of all is the upstairs sitting room: a chic, open-plan space with church style windows letting light flood in and super sofas, good art, lovely fabrics. A wood-burner keeps you toasty, Wendy is a grand cook and all is flexible. A gorgeous, relaxing place to stay – on the A44 but peaceful at night – that positively hums with hospitality. Guests say “even better than home!”

“Great accommodation and very good hosts”

On arrival we were greeted by John who showed us our room and then provided us with coffee and a very nice homemade cake, which was very welcome as we had only arrived in England that day after a flight from Australia. The B&B is in a great country location and a local pub close by for meals. In addition there are two very nice manor houses in close walking distance of the Old School. Great for a morning walk or run. We occupied the Kingham room that was very large and comfortable. John and Wendy provided a great breakfast and we enjoyed meeting other guests around the breakfast table

    “Cotswald excellence”

We stayed at The Old School B&B recently for 3 nights & it was so wonderful in every way. Wendy & John are the most friendly & gracious of hosts whose attention to detail is exceptional. Gorgeous rooms, the softest towels, a huge & welcoming guest lounge, delicious breakfasts & even offered the use of their washing machine. We have been travelling for almost 4 months & staying here was a little piece of heaven. They are central to everywhere in the Cotswalds & will assist with any aspect of your visit. It was our first visit to this area but won't be our last & we will always return. It is a must stay in this beautiful area of England.

    “Hospitality with a capital "H" - a real delight”

When you find a bed and breakfast with a 99% strike rate as "excellent", you know you have found a real gem, and this one delivers "excellency" in all categories. I won't repeat the previous commentaries other than to say that this is an extremely comfortable house that prides itself on delivering genuine warmth and hospitality. We stayed 2 nights and would return in a flash. If you are reading this - one piece of advice - stop the search now. You've found the one. Stayed August 2014, travelled as a couple

    “Splendid Stay!”

John and Wendy are lovely as is the B&B. During our visit to the UK, we stayed at several B&B’s and thanks to my wife’s research, enjoyed them all. Even so, “The Old School” provided little extras that distinguished it from the others. Some examples include the in-room fridge, the very relaxing lounge area that included a fire, reading material, music and libations should you choose to partake. The breakfast was delicious with all the usual items, plus Wendy went out of her way to accommodate my wife who is Celiac. She also made me a wonderful omelette that was a pleasant upgrade to the usual egg choices. She provided literature and guidance on the Cotswolds’ that afforded us the opportunity to explore the area efficiently and make the most of our 2 days in that region. We very much enjoyed our stay at the beautifully refurbished schoolhouse and would highly recommend to anyone seeking accommodations in this area of the Cotswolds. “Definitely worth a visit”

My wife and I stayed at the Old School during a driving trip through the Cotswolds. I thoroughly recommend it. The proprietors were very accommodating, very friendly and its clear that they put in a lot of effort to make their guests' stay a pleasant one. There's not a huge amount to do in the immediate area (there are eating options in walking distance) but it's a great base from which to travel to other parts of the countryside. The room itself was on the small and cosy side but that didn't matter due to the extensive common areas and gardens that allow you privacy if you want, but encourages socialising with the other guests. The food was excellent - breakfast was delicious and the cake and tea provided in the evening hit the spot. Recommended! Stayed August 2014, travelled as a couple

“The Perfect English B&B In Every Way”

If you're looking for a beautiful character filled B&B, in a picturesque area, with luxurious accommodation (very comfy bed, soft luxurious linen, stylish bathroom fittings etc) and the most helpful and friendly hosts that you'd ever hope to meet......then go ahead and book! Wendy and John made my husband and I feel so welcome and we loved every minute of our stay. They gave us lots of maps and information about the surrounding villages and great suggestions (like visiting "Daylesford Farm Shop" which we loved). We're really looking forward to going back to explore more of the Cotswolds and we'll definitely stay at the Old School House B&B again. Stayed April 2015, travelled as a couple

“Perfect for our first stay at a B&B”

It was my our first visit to the UK and one of our very first stops was at Cotswolds and we are so happy we chose The Old School as our very first ever B&B experience! Wendy's so warm and friendly we felt right at home the moment she greeted us at the door. Our room was on the highest floor of the B&B and it was so cosy! The bed was super soft we didn't feel like leaving it the next morning! You have to go to the common living room area to relax and read by the fireplace, my husband fell asleep on the couch! Overall an unforgettable stay and we would love to spend more time at Wendy's the next time we visit!

The Old School Bed & Breakfast! Must visit and best to stay at Little Compton, Costwolds! And wonderful breakfast every morning! Thank you again for the greast time and always the best for The Old School family - From Seoul, Daughter & her parents Stayed May 2015, travelled with family

    Energy”

Is what Wendy Veale has in spades! She runs a lovely bed and breakfast with great enthusiasm and absolute perfection. Very welcoming, very comfortable, generous and warm hospitality. Divine home made cake and tea available whether on arrival or after a long day of sightseeing, and she cooks a wonderful breakfast, beautifully presented. Wendy and John are both most helpful with suggestions of activities in their obviously beloved Cotswolds, a very special part of England. Highly recommended! Stayed June 2015, travelled as a couple

“Very pretty B & B with lovely host”

The house is situated in the heart of cotswold and very tastefully decorated. Breakfast is very well done with a wide range of choices. Scrambled eggs were yummy, coffee was fragrant. The rooms are very cosy. Only thing is it is not for those who can't take stairs very well. The sitting room is so comfortable and such a great place to chat with other travellers after a day out. There's also port wine available so you can have a night cap before bed. If only I could stay for a week, maybe next time! Stayed September 2015, travelled with family
