How to Reach :
Local Area Info :
Competing factions* within the Cedar City Tourism Bureau champion two different nicknames for their town: Some call it "Gateway to the National Parks" because it's one hour from Zion, 90 minutes from Bryce Canyon and 3 hours from Capitol Reef or the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Buy a National Parks Pass and set up base camp in Cedar. Then, when you get tired of those (Ha!), expand your net and explore places like Cedar Breaks National Monument, only 30 minutes away in the heart of the Dixie National Forest. Others call it "Festival City, USA." Because it has a lot of festivals. For Shakespeare, for livestock, for music, for wild flowers, for classic cars and films. There's a bike race, a summer sports competition, a rodeo, and a Christmas parade of storybook characters. With all this celebratory foot traffic, they should add an annual Main Street Resurfacing Festival. (Too bad you can't pave a road with sheep dung.)

Beautiful historic home
Our girls basketball team and parents stayed there for summer games. It was located near all the gyms we played at. It is decorated so cute and is extremely clean! There is air conditioning in each bedroom and the wifi is great! The beds and sheets are extremely comfortable and the owner was very friendly and accommodating. We will be staying again!
Felt like home!
We loved being able to cook our own meals and have quiet time away from the other festival goers. Carolyn and Rich were great to work with us on a special request. There are several levels, so the bedrooms are upstairs, but also one bedroom on the main floor with a bathroom which worked for our elderly mother.
Lovely home close to town
Our host, Cami, met us personally and gave us a tour of the house. We fell is love with both! We had lots of room for our group, a patio to meet and visit, and close to town for walking. Comfy beds and the bathroom for each room was a huge plus! Lots of chairs for big groups. So much fun, we worried the neighbors might complain :-) This is our new "home away from home" in Cedar City.
Our group of 7 returned for another visit to the Shakespeare Festival and days hiking in the mountains. We once again found Cami a great host, very friendly and welcoming. When the gas tank on the BBQ emptied, she stopped by with a full tank within 15 minutes of our call. Like last year, we ate our dinners and breakfasts out on the back deck. In the evenings, we walked to/from the plays at the festival, only two (Utah!) blocks from the house. We love this house and hope to make it a regular part of our annual trip.
We rented the cottage during our visit to Acadia NP to see the fall colors and had a wonderful time. The cottage is clean and well appointed. The kitchen was stocked well with the tools necessary for us to prepare a full turkey dinner as well as multiple other meals. During our stay, the night time temperatures dropped into the 20s and hovered around the 40s during the day. The cottage remained quite comfortable and was still warm when we would return at the end of a day, even though we lowered the thermostat during the day. The island is not all that big. The cottage was conveniently located for every place we wanted to explore. There were grocery stores within easy reach nearby in Southwest Harbor and a larger one in Bar Harbor. A word to future renters: you may need to shop for essential food items prior to your arrival if you plan to cook when you arrive. This is not a criticism of the Newman Cottage, but something that varies from rental to rental when it comes to kitchens. You'll find all the tools and serving items you'll need, but an empty pantry and (very clean!) refrigerator - no sugar or ketchup left by previous renters here! Luckily, we anticipated this and shopped in Ellsworth before our arrival.
We had a wonderful stay, Cami was a wonderful and accommodating host! The house was great, well stocked and clean. Its a historic house so there are squeaky floors but outside of that everything was perfect. Netflix and internet were very good. The kids built a snowman in the huge backyard and the house was central to a lot of restaurants and stores. Thanks Cami!
